EXPLORING FABRICATED OR INDUCED ILLNESS: A NARRATIVE REVIEW

The aim of my research is to collect narratives from parents of autistic children. The FII literature mainly consists of case studies which have been identified as cases of Fabricated and Induced Illness by medical professionals. They are submitted to medical journals and peer reviewed by medical professionals and no one questions whether there are alternative explanations. There is a huge gap in the literature for the perspectives of parents and children. I decided to focus on the stories from parents because I am an autistic parent and have already conducted research in this area.

The next step in this project will be to receive ethics approval (time of writing is July 22). Until then my proposed research methods may change and I can not begin to recruit participants or members for my advisory group.  If you wish to be involved in my research, watch this space for my recruitment adverts.

I am hoping, subject to ethics approval, to do an online survey, which will collect both quantitative and qualitative data. The results of this will be used to inform my questions for semi-structured narrative interviews.
